We have recently upgraded our mail storage system. While this new system is more robust and faster than our old system, the bulk of the front end is the same. A new component of the mail system is the ability to detect and mark fraudulent messages - We encourage our users to mark suspicous messages that the system does not catch so that it will be able to better identify them in the future.

We have made a series of improvements on the website in the past several months

LDSdates.com just launched a new feature which allows site members to indicate their interests and view other LDS singles interests.

We are excited about this new feature because it will allow members to more easily identify other singles who share common interests and may increase the chances of finding a highly compatable match. We encourage users to use the new features (Favorites and Interests) because we believe they will benefit them.

The Interests feature allows singles to select from over 200 different interests, once they select some interests they will be displayed on their profile page.

Use Emergency Essentials Food Storage Analyzer to Plan and Analyze Your Food Storage Needs and Nutritional Value.

If you are LDS, you have probably heard of things such as emergency preparedness, self reliance and specifically food storage. If you are just starting your food storage and other preparedness goals you probably have discovered that the amount of information and number of things which you can do seem endless. If you are single and renting, have roommates, or are in school; you probably haven’t even begun. Nevertheless, it is something you can start planning and even start on a small scale. If it isn’t possible to store a years worth of supplies in your current living arrangement you can use resources and planning tools such as the Emergency Essentials Food Storage Analyzer to help you begin with small steps.

Food Storage Analyzer

The Analyzer is a web based tool that offers a lot of functionality. Obviously you can use it to plan your years supply of food storage, you can also use it to plan the food storage for multiple people, short and long term nutritional analysis, browsing foods by nutritional strengths and entering and saving your own foods and values among other things.

Analysis of Nutritional Value

One of the really impressive features I found in the food storage analyzer is the analysis of nutritional value of your food storage. If fulfills your daily caloric requirement with the items you list in your food storage list and then compares the nutritional value of those foods with the US RDA values. The output is a simple chart at the bottom of the program that shows you how nutritious your food storage is in regards to Calories from Fat, Fat, Saturated Fat, Trans Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Carbohydrates, Dietary Fiber, Sugars, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron.

Using this information you can determine how nutritious your food storage really is. If you discover that your food storage’s nutritional value is low for a particular nutrient, there are quick links provided to find foods that are high in selected nutrients.

How can this benefit you if you are just starting your food storage? For planning your anticipated storage, the calculator has the ability to select items that you want to have in your food storage so that you can see how these items will affect the nutritional value of your food storage. Since it calculates based on the number of days that you have enough calories for, you can start off planning for one month of food storage or an even shorter period if required.

Even if you have no food storage and eat out all the time, you can use this tool to see where your diet may be insufficient. Simply get copies of all nutritional information sheets for everything you eat in a week and enter the data in the system. You can easily see where you may need to start purchasing some other types of foods to improve your nutritional intake. For example, if you try to live off of hamburgers and pepperoni pizzas, the analyzer shows you you have high amounts of protein, fat and sodium, whereas you are very low in vitamins A and C. A couple of clicks away shows you that you need some dehydrated carrot dices to round out your nutritional intake.

Search for Products by Nutrient

Searching for foods by high nutrient content is easy using the quick links beside the chart at the bottom of the form. The results are ordered highest to lowest so you can easily start at the top looking for something you like. In the pizza and burger example above, dehydrated carrot dices appeared first under vitamin A content.

Enter and Save Your Own Foods

As I mentioned earlier, you can enter your own foods in the analyzer. This allows you to track your own diet, no matter how unique it may be. By creating a profile, this information is automatically saved for you so that you may come back and adjust and monitor your progress in the future.

Click the link below to try the Food Storage Analyzer.

Have you ever wondered if someone liked you? Most likely you have, perhaps you wanted to go out with them, but were unsure if they were interested. Chances are you have and you probably spent a lot of time thinking about this person and looking for signs that he or she was as interested in you as you are interested in them. Here we present several signs that will hopefully help you find out if there is mutual interest or not.

Most of you have been, or will be in a situation where you will wonder how you can tell if someone likes you? The situations vary, maybe it is someone who you are friends with an have known for a long time, or someone you just met and feel attracted to and you would like to know if the attraction is mutual. No matter the situation, knowing that your interest is welcome helps get you off to a good start.

What if someone doesn’t like you?

On the other hand knowing if your interest is unwanted or perceived as a burden, helps you get out before wasting to much time and money and saves everyone a lot of emotional distress. This unwanted interest situation occurs more often with those who are new to dating (and with a few slow learners) -they take a step away from reality; wanting the person to like them and assume that by their persistent efforts they will win someone over, rarely do you win someone over if they don’t have any interest to begin with.

Here are a few signs that some is interest in you and signs that you are wasting your time and should move on.

Signs Someone Likes You (Positive Body Language)

Hair tossing, primping, shuffleing - your date wants to be noticed.

Moistening lips - another sign that your date may be interested in something

Signs Someone is Not Interested in You (Negative Body Language)

Slouching - either extremly bored, tired or comfortable.

Arms Folded - generally sends a no signal, protective

Legs crossed pointing away - disinterested

Nodding - general politeness, not really interested.

Continuing my theme of great date ideas, here are four cultural date ideas that are sure to provide a great time.

Concerts, free community concerts, Open Mic Nights
When it comes to attending musical events, there are many different options. Commercial Concerts by popular artists can be fun, but you will need to navigate large crowds and it can be difficult to talk, additionally they are frequently expensive. Benefits Concerts and free community concerts by local artists can be really wonderful – sometimes popular artists will do smaller venues to benefit a charity. Some of my personal favorites are smaller non-commercialized venues such as jam sessions, and open mic nights. Jam sessions will usually involve just a few bands. Open mic nights tend to offer lots of variety. These smaller venues generally have from a few dozen to a hundred or so people, and the variety of music and atmosphere is really impressive. If you have the space you may consider holding weekly Open Mic nights yourself – years ago I had some friends that did this, there easily hosted a variety of artists with fresh content every week.

Attend an Orchestra
Attending an orchestral event can be quite entertaining as you expand your musical tastes to new genres and develop you appreciation for music. Orchestral events are not only limited to classical artists, you may find several specialty events combined with orchestral events such as big bands, contemporary music and historical pieces. You may also find that you enjoy dressing up for the evening, the architecture of the orchestral halls, or the variety of music and productions available. Some city orchestras will offer discount tickets for students, a school orchestra event will also fit tighter budgets. These dates are generally better if you go with another couple. Taking your date for a good meal at a late night breakfast serving restaurant is a nice way to top off the evening.

International Culture Dinner
This is the time to experiment, find some recipes for international cuisine and make an evening of preparing the meal and dining together. This type of an evening is usually best done with groups, so that everyone can pitch in and share the kudos or blame depending on how the food turns out. Do not cause yourself undue stress my making this into a ‘date’ where everything has to be prepared before hand, but rather invite everyone over to assist in the preparation. This allows everyone to have great conversation, improve cooking skills and learn to work together. You can add to the effect of the dinner by having theme music or videos playing in the background. If you have friends who are familiar with the culture, invite them to share a presentation or supervise the cooking to make certain it turns out authentic.

Local Festivals
Local festivals and events can be great opportunities to learn more about the area where you live. These events may be put on by religious groups, charities, towns, historical societies, businesses, schools or other organizations. There are many different activities that are available at these types of events; generally the standard fare consists of live music, games or craft displays and food – sometimes you will find dancing and live shows. Looking and listening are usually free, dining and souvenirs are probably not.

An important part of a good date is the activity you choose, here are five different date ideas that are both inexpensive and highly interactive.

Antique Hunting

Take your date on a stroll through history in local antique shops, together you can learn about history as items from yesteryear continually bring conversations topics to mind. You can learn a lot about a person by seeing what types of things appeal to them. Antique hunting helps keep the conversation moving as you continually find interesting objects that may remind you of ancestors or of past experiences. It can be a good way to start learning about one another’s heritage.

Visiting an Arboretum or Public Gardens

If you are a guy, you should know most women like flowers. If you are a girl, you should know most men like bugs – well at least they did when they were young. Nevertheless visiting a public garden is both interesting and educational. Public gardens typically offer beautiful landscaping or undisturbed natural scenery, interesting plants and flowers and occasional views of native wildlife. Often these gardens have visitor’s centers where you can learn about the varieties of plants you will find in the garden. These visitor’s centers may have displays, presentations, free information and other literature available. Use the information you find in the visitors centers to help you identify the plants you come across in the gardens.

Candle Making

You will need to prepare for this date a bit by getting some supplies at a local craft store. There are several types of candles you can make such as hand dipped, molded and rolled candles. You can get creative by placing your candles in a variety of objects and incorporating various colors and fragrances. Candle making is a good way to gain insight into your dates preferences and creativity.

Decorating T-Shirts

You can start this date out by taking a trip to the craft store together. You will need to pick up a couple of inexpensive t-shirts and a few supplies for you and your date. This date lends itself very well to holiday themes or any common interest the two of you may share. You can decorate your shirts with fabric ink applied with pens or foam stamps, iron on transfers, tie-dyeing, stencils and other techniques. A local craft store should be able to provide several interesting possibilities. If you discover you enjoy spending time with your date, wear the shirts you made on your second date.

Clay Modeling Crafts and Games

Make jewelry, designs, pottery or other useful or interesting items – an active imagination can add lots of great alternatives to this kind of a date. You don’t need any fancy equipment to make pottery and model with clay; there are many oven bake clays available today that are very easy to work with. Those with tighter budgets can opt for play-doh or even home-made dough. You can reuse the dough or clay in other dates and group activities as well, such as playing charades and other word guessing games by using clay hints in lieu of giving verbal clues. This type of an activity is sure to give you bonus points for creativity.

As a single, Sunday was a day I looked forward to all week. Not only was it a day of spiritual renewal and rest from worldly activities, but it was a great day to be with friends and acquaintances, meet new people, and of course, flirt with potential dating prospects. Something exciting was bound to happen almost every week!

Sacrament mtg is where you can see who might be new or visiting in the ward. If you happen to be a greeter at the door (by official calling or by appointing yourself), you can personally meet and welcome every individual who walks in the door. When you find someone you’d like to get to know better, make it a point to sit next to them in Sunday School so you can become acquainted before the lesson starts.

After church it’s always a good idea to linger a little. By hanging around, you make yourself more approachable and this gives those the opportunity to talk to you that may not have had it earlier because of time constraints, timidity or other reasons. It lets people know that you’re available and want to talk.

Choir practice usually happened after church in my ward, which was another opportunity of getting to know people better. Not only is singing fun, but choir provides a lighter atmosphere than the formal church meetings.

Sunday afternoon is an ideal time for home teaching. This is a given opportunity from the Lord to get to know others. Many relationships between couples have come about thanks to home teaching.

If it’s Fast Sunday, many single’s wards have break-the-fast meals. These are casual meals where you can mix and mingle with other singles. Different settings with the same people often show different aspects of them, letting you get to know them better.

If it’s not fast Sunday, maybe there’s a dinner group in the ward you can join. If not, start your own by inviting a few people over for lunch or dinner.

Don’t forget ward prayer! There’s nothing like more singing, a spirtual thought, a prayer, and more socializing to boost your week! Get there early and linger late to maximize your opportunities of meeting new people and making new friends.

Some singles I’ve known often had a game night Sunday night. I’m not promoting or condoning this idea, but if you feel right about it this is yet another great acitivity for meeting folks.

I’m sure there are a miriad of other wonderful sabbath activities for meeting singles, but these here will give you a start, and may even be all you need for meeting that special someone who will help turn you into a couple instead of a single. They worked for me, which is why I recommend them!

Remember to put the Lord first in all things! Perseverence is the key and every week is a new and exciting week!
