Be Wise
Protect yourself by not giving out identifying information. Do not give out your email address, phone numbers, addresses, websites, place of work, or any other identifying information in your letters or profile. Stay anonymous. Discontinue all correspondence with anyone who demands or tries to trick you into giving this information.

Be Cautious
People can be whatever they want to on the Internet; in real life they may be totally different than the impression they have given you. The information they are telling you may not be true. Analyze the way they say things and look for inconsistencies. Even if they seem perfect, remember that they are not perfect; you are still taking a risk. Realize the information they are telling you may be entirely fake.

Be Realistic
When meeting online you can easily assume someone is the perfect match because the internet hides flaws. it is too easy to replace this missing information with our own self created images of a perfect mate. Do not fall in love based on email communication. If you fell someone may be dishonest, assume they are dishonest and terminate correspondence. It takes time and lot's of experience to get to know someone. Do not jump into a relationship and don’t be too eager to meet.

Behavior
Watch for odd behaviors, signs of disorders, aggression and other undesirable characteristics. If they attempt to hide information from you about their past, it may be a warning sign. Other warning signs consist of indirectness, inconsistencies, elusiveness and secrecy.

Photos
Get several photo’s of the person in a variety of natural situations. These photo’s may provide insight into their personality. Anyone can scan a photo at a copy store.

Spirit
You don’t have to meet if you don’t want to. Trust your feelings and the spirit. That little feeling to be careful may be the spirit warning you of danger. If they tell you your feelings are wrong, do not meet them.

Talking
If you choose to make further contact with someone, use the telephone first. You should always make your phone call from a public phone, not your personal phone because Caller ID can give out information you are not ready to divulge.

Meeting
If you decide to meet. Do so in a public place, tell someone of your plans and when you are expected to return. Take someone with you for your own safety. Have and use your own transportation for the entire time – do not share. Have a good excuse to leave on a minutes notice. Don’t be afraid to sneak or offend them by leaving. You may carrying some form of personal protection such as mace or pepper spray. Be ready to call the police if needed.
